The Cameras module contains an OSGi-based API and ready-to-use drivers for integration of network and USB based cameras in our runtime. It allows you to set up, monitor, and manage a network of camera devices (supporting several models, protocols and different functionalities) either directly using the Cameras module API, or through the abstraction layer provided by the Device Access (DA) Module.

Feature Set

The module provides these features and functionalities:

• Provides support for network cameras in the OSGi environment.
• Supports direct and proxy connections via HTTP and RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol).
• RTSP/RTP proxy support is available over TCP and UDP connections.
• Includes FFMPEG and VLC trans-coding.
• Provides remote control (pan, tilt, zoom), as well as presets and profiles management of network camera devices.
• Includes the Web Based Camera Viewer Demo which provides a web interface for adding/removing and managing cameras.
• Provides integration with the management features of the Device Access (DA).
• Provides integration with the Peripheral Module, allowing automatic detection and configuration of camera devices attached via USB and UPnP.
• Includes the following camera drivers:
  • Axis, supporting Axis cameras
  • Compro, supporting Compro IP cameras
  • IPCAM, supporting IPCAM cameras with CGI v2.1 (example vendors: Foscam, Wanscam, and Apexis) (deprecated)
  • Mobotix, supporting Mobotix cameras (deprecated)
  • MotionGuide, supporting USB web cameras for Linux (Video4Linux 2.0 compliant) (deprecated)
  • ONVIF, supporting ONVIF cameras (example vendors: Oncam Grandeye, Hisilicon, and D-Link)
  • Panasonic, based on Panasonic's CGI for H.264, MPEG-4 and JPEG camera series (deprecated)
  • SerComm, supporting SerComm cameras with CGI v1.36
  • UDP, supporting UDP Technologies cameras of NVC series (deprecated)
  • UDP-IPX, supporting UDP Technologies cameras of IPX/IPN series (deprecated)
  • ZyXEL, supporting Zyxel cameras with CGI v1.4
  • D-Link, supporting D-Link cameras according to HTTP API (NIPCA 1.9.5)

  • Generic camera support, supporting virtually any camera which has a known URL for accessing its stream

Known Issues and Limitations

The following issues or limitations are known:

• RTSP proxy does not support HTTP tunneling (RTSP and RTP over HTTP)
• RTSP proxy does not support multicast
• Camera-specific device item interfaces are directly mapped over the device class interfaces. This mapping will be a subject of redesign in the future.

Module Dependencies

The module has dependencies on the following:

• OSGi Framework: The OSGi Runtime is required for the module to operate.
• Device Access (DA) Module: Optional, but required if you need camera-related device management.

Supported Devices

The Cameras module provides support for a variety of brands and models including ONVIF, IPCAM and others. Information on specific devices is provided on demand.
