Modbus is a communications protocol for use with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). It is a standard communication protocol that is commonly available for connecting industrial electronic devices. Modbus enables communication among many devices connected to the same network, for example, a system that measures temperature and humidity and communicates the results to a computer. It is often used to connect a supervisory computer with a remote terminal unit (RTU) in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.

Feature Set

• Implements the Modbus 1.1b protocol specification.
• Implements full Modbus protocol standard functionalities.
• Supports backup and restore functionalities for supported devices.

There is no official Device Access (DA) support available.

Supported Devices

• Certified Devices - the Modbus module provides support for all Modbus-certified devices, with a subset of features as described in the feature set above.

Tested Devices - There is NO specific data and model information available about fully tested devices with the latest release of the Bosch IoT Gateway software stack.

Known Issues and Limitations

• The APIs of this module are to be updated in future releases and are not final.
• No proprietary discovery method is available. Each device manufacturer offers a discovery method.
• The Modbus simulator supports only TCP/IP.
• The Modbus simulator supports only the basic Modbus primitives for reading and writing coils/discrete inputs and input/holding registers.
