Module description

The Framework module is the implementation of the OSGi Runtime delivering the environment and basic functionality for developing applications.

The OSGi framework provides a vendor-independent, standards-based approach to modularizing Java software applications and infrastructure. Support for the newest OSGi Core Release 7 specification included in Bosch IoT Gateway Software 10.0.0 adds even more interoperability to customer solutions, enables rich open source implementations and increases developer productivity with the newest APIs and annotations.

Feature set

The module provides the following features and functionalities:

System bundle delivers important system functions available mainly through the framework
Framework API provides Bosch proprietary extensions to OSGi R7 Core API

Some of the most important Core Features of the Framework module are:

Customizable Boot module – the Boot module is responsible for installing a predefined set of bundles on framework startup without ready bundle storage, i.e. on clean launch.
Lazy initialization – provides basic guidelines about the feature's usage and setup.
Framework Management – provides a universal model for measuring important runtime parameters of bundles as well as of the framework itself.

Known issues and limitations

Since macOS/OS X version 10.11, System Integrity Protection is introduced and prevents Bosch IoT Gateway Software from loading its native libraries (libosinfo and libtime). System Integrity Protection must be disabled in order to launch Bosch IoT Gateway Software native libraries on macOS/OS X 10.11 or higher.
