The main purpose of the Device Access (DA) module is to unify device representation. This unification is achieved by creating an abstraction for various supported protocols. Regardless of the physical, network or transport layer and regardless of the model, vendor and device type, all devices can be represented in a unified way. This is done for easier and secure device management as well as device control.

The DA module enables the user to define a set of devices that can be managed by Device Access.

Feature Set

The Device Access Module provides the following features and functionalities:

Abstracts the differences between the various supported protocols by defining a common Java API for controlling devices.
Ensures compatibility and good interoperability with existing IP or non-IP protocols.
Provides convenient access, control and notification mechanisms suitable for the OSGi environment.
Enables control over devices in the network, based on their functionality instead of on the underlying protocol commands and the protocol's possible limitations.

Module Dependencies

The Device Access module has dependencies on the following modules:

Framework - the OSGi Runtime that is required for the Device Access module to operate.
Core - this module is required for the Device Access module to operate.
OSGi - this module is required. The Device Access module is based on the OSGi Specification.
Util - this module is required for the Device Access module to operate.
