DA API Module Description

In the Device Access implementation unification of devices is represented by defining the DA API. The DA API allows control of devices in the network based on their functionality instead of the protocol that is used to maintain a connection with them.

The unified representation is presented in two directions. On one hand, we have a unified device representation to a higher level of abstraction through the DA API. On the other hand, we have a unified device representation to a lower level of abstraction through the HDM SPI.

The Device Access API is the new defined API that features the new functionality. The HDM API is deprecated and will be possibly removed from the next version of the Device Access module.

The DA implementation provides the following specific features and functionalities:

DA API is based on the Functional Item Management specification.
provides a new functionality for device configuration.
provides a new functionality for the mapping of two device's functionality which are functional items.
provides M2M Device Management REST API.

There are no known issues for this module.

Module Dependencies

The Device Access implementation has specific dependencies on the following modules:

Functional Item Management - this module is required. The Device Access API is based on the Functional Item specification. The Device, its Device Items and DeviceAdmin are represented as Functional Items.
Scripting - this module is optional. The Device Access implementation uses the Scripting module to evaluate the scripting languages in the OSGi environment.
Units of Measurements Framework - this module is required. Device Items use this module for functionalities presented in a uniform manner.
REST - this module is optional. This module provides intuitive and robust REST interface for management of Devices and Functional Items locally via the web service running on the Bosch IoT Gateway Software.
